6.2.8 Uplink Application Container Transfer Procedure

Figure 6.2.8-1 describes the Uplink Application Container Transfer procedure. The DO-A Capable AIoT Device shall register to the network as described in clause 6.2.7 before initiating the Uplink Application Container Transfer procedure. To receive DO-A data from the DO-A Capable AIoT Device, the AF shall perform AF Subscription for Uplink Application Container Transfer Procedure as described in clause 5.2.3.

The procedure focuses on the messages and parameters used for the communication between AIOTF and NG-RAN regardless of the path to access NG-RAN, see clause 4.2.2.1.

1. The DO-A Capable AIoT Device sends the AS message (AIoT NAS Uplink Application Container Transfer Request message (DO-A data, DO-A Capable AIoT Device Temporary Identifier), AIOTF ID) to the NG-RAN.

The AIOTF ID in the AS message is the AIOTF ID from the DO-A Capable AIoT Device Temporary Identifier, see clause 5.7.5. The AIOTF ID allows NG-RAN to select and route the Uplink Application Container Transfer Request message to the appropriate AIOTF.

2. The NG-RAN selects AIOTF based on the AIOTF ID provided in step 1.

3. The NG-RAN sends the NGAP message (AIoT NAS Uplink Application Container Transfer Request message, AIOTF ID, RAN AIoT Device NGAP ID) to the AIOTF directly or via the AMF.

4. The AIOTF obtains the AIoT Device Permanent ID and target address(es) from the AIoT Device Context using DO-A Capable AIoT Device Temporary Identifier. The AIOTF invokes the Naiotf_AIoT_Notify (DO-A data, AIoT Device Permanent ID) to the NEF.

5. The NEF invokes the Nnef_AIoT_Notify (DO-A data, AIoT Device Permanent ID) to the AF.

6. The AIOTF sends the NGAP message (AIoT NAS Uplink Application Container Transfer Response message, RAN AIoT Device NGAP ID) to the NG-RAN directly or via the AMF.

If AIoT Device Context is not available in the AIOTF, the AIOTF responds to the DO-A Capable AIoT Device with an appropriate cause.

7. The NG-RAN sends the AS message (AIoT NAS Uplink Application Container Transfer Response message) to the DO-A Capable AIoT Device.
