Ambient IoT — a tag with no battery
Ambient IoT is a device with no battery. It runs on whatever energy it can harvest from its surroundings — radio waves, light, motion, heat — and 3GPP has been writing standards for it since 2022. Four short chapters here: what the idea is, which groups are building it, what exists on paper so far, and where to go and read it yourself. Everything below was read out of 3GPP's own paperwork, and the last chapter says plainly what that paperwork cannot tell anybody.
