5.51.2.4 Energy Consumption information exposure

A consumer NF (i.e. AF/NEF, PCF) subscribes from the EIF for Energy consumption information of required granularities (UE, S-NSSAI, PDU session and/or Service Data Flow).

• For UE level energy exposure, the consumer NF provides UE ID (SUPI/GPSI).
• For S-NSSAI of the UE level exposure, the consumer NF provides UE ID (SUPI/GPSI), S-NSSAI.
• For PDU session level exposure, the consumer NF provides UE ID (SUPI/GPSI), DNN/S-NSSAI.
• For Service Data Flow level exposure (e.g. per UE per application), the consumer NF provides UE ID (SUPI/GPSI), DNN/S-NSSAI and application information, e.g. Application Identifier, or Flow description(s).

The consumer NF may also subscribe to the above information exposure with providing reporting period, or time window. A consumer NF may also subscribe to the Energy consumption information exposure of required granularity and additionally provide a reporting threshold for the required granularity and the reporting time period. If threshold-based reporting is configured for the reporting period, the consumer NF does not receive consumption information other than whether the threshold on energy consumption has been crossed in a reporting period. The information that the threshold has been crossed is sent to the consumer NF as soon the threshold crossing is detected in a reporting period.

NOTE 1: For the threshold-based reporting, the EIF sends the Energy consumption information of the required granularity to the consumer NF once in the reporting period when the Energy consumption information of the required granularity matches or exceeds the threshold during the reporting period. If the threshold is not crossed in the reporting period, the EIF does not send any consumption information for the reporting period unless the periodic energy consumption reporting is separately requested without specifying the threshold for the reporting period.

NOTE 2: In this Release of the specification, requesting energy-related information by the consumer is supported only for reporting periods and time windows occurring after the subscription time.

An EIF, if supported, may expose information additional to the energy consumption information at the requested granularity. If requested by the consumers of the energy consumption exposure services of the EIF, the additional information is provided together with the Energy Consumption information at the desired granularity and is the result of postprocessing of the information the EIF already has collected.

In conjunction with the energy consumption at the desired granularity, a supporting EIF may provide upon request from a consumer:

• Energy Consumption per bit: this is computed by dividing the calculated energy consumption at the desired granularity by the measured data volume (in bits) at the desired granularity used to calculate the energy consumption at the desired granularity.
• Energy Consumption Category: this is a scalar with value which is determined by the EIF by using PLMN-operator defined rules (e.g. each Energy consumption category value could be defined one of N categories of percentile defined by the operator).

NOTE 3: Both the rules used to define and determine the Energy Consumption Category values, and the Energy Consumption Category values are not in scope of 3GPP and defined by the PLMN operator for its customers.

NOTE 4: The Energy Consumption Category is applicable to the same scope (e.g. regional, PLMN-wide) as the scope of the information that the EIF is collecting for the same granularity for other UEs that are e.g. associated to ongoing exposure subscriptions. The scope (e.g. regional, PLMN-wide) of the information an EIF collects is deployment specific.

The consumer AF/NEF may also subscribe the UE level or PDU Session level energy exposure with requesting the energy consumption ranking of applications i.e. indicator for the energy consumption ranking information and a list of Application Identifiers for applications related to the AF, with the following restriction and clarification:

• The permission/authorization for the energy consumption ranking of applications is performed as below.
• The AF shall provide AF request to the NEF (i.e. the AF does not request it directly to the EIF).
• The NEF checks whether the AF is authorized to request the energy consumption ranking of applications. The NEF further checks whether the AF is authorized for the list of Application Identifiers based on local configuration. If the authorization failed, the NEF rejects the AF request.
• The EIF checks with UDM whether it is allowed to process the energy consumption ranking of applications for the UE as specified in clause 5.51.2.2.3.
• The EIF performs the ranking only for the ongoing applications for which energy consumption information is collected.
• The EIF exposes the following application ranking related information together with the energy consumption information for the UE or for the PDU Session to the AF without energy consumption information per application.
• If the energy consumption information exposure is for UE level, a list of applications (i.e. Application Identifiers) in descending order of contributing to the energy consumption for the requested UE.
• If the energy consumption information exposure is for PDU Session level, a list of applications (i.e. Application Identifiers) in descending order of contributing to the energy consumption for the requested PDU Session.

NOTE 5: Energy consumption ranking of applications is the result of postprocessing of the information the EIF already has collected.

NOTE 6: It is assumed that a single EIF is involved for all the applications that can be exposed together as the application ranking related information.
