RAN WG2 can consider both UL and DL directions. in [R2-2209215] Furthermore, RAN WG2 has also agreed that the UE needs to be able to identify PDU Sets \/ Bursts but that in-band marking of PDUs in the uplink over Uu (the equivalent of downlink marking in GTP headers) is not needed. in [R2-2213225] RAN WG2 considers that the PDU set concept is applicable to both UL and DL. in [R2-2302010] In RAN WG2#122 meeting, RAN WG2 agreed: On the UL, the identification of PDU sets, data bursts and PSI is left to UE implementation. This doesn t mean UE cannot use information provided by upper layers, but RAN WG2 does not intend to specify how. Some of the radio level capabilities defined by RAN WG2 (e.g. pdu-SetDiscard, which indicates whether the UEs supports PDU set based discard operation) implicitly assume XR awareness for UL traffic in UE AS layer (i.e. awareness of PDU sets, data bursts, and PSI). However, RAN WG2 thinks it is up to SA WG2\/CT WG1 to decide whether AS\/NAS interactions or NAS signaling is required to support this and, if so, how they are defined.
