RAN5 received further information and background about the LS from GSMA TSG representatives in 3GPP during the presentation of the LS in RAN5#103 meeting. RAN5 was informed that GSMA TSG IoT Group\u2019s work on NB-IoT NTN test specification and test cases is targeted towards \u2018Interoperability\u2019 testing, thus won\u2019t be duplicating conformance test development undertaken by RAN5. It was also clarified that the queries in the LS was limited to Signalling (Protocol) test cases, though RAN4 has been copied._x000D_\n_x000D_\nRAN5 acknowledges GSMA TSG IoT Group\u2019s strong interest in facilitating certification and commercialization of Rel-17 NB-IoT NTN devices._x000D_\n_x000D_\nRAN5 Conformance Test Development covering features and functionalities defined by 3GPP Core Working Groups is closely aligned with commercial deployment needs of the industry. RAN5 has no interest to define test cases for features and functionalities that have very little or no commercial interest. RAN5 experience to date has been not much of industry interest for Rel-15 and Rel-16 NB-IoT in a terrestrial environment. Hence, RAN5 has defined a limited amount of test cases for Rel-15 NB-IoT (no test coverage for EDT) and no test cases for Rel-16 NB-IoT._x000D_\n_x000D_\nIf RAN5 can establish real commercial interest for some of the features defined in Rel-15 and Rel-16 NB-IoT for deployment of Rel-17 NB-IoT NTN, then RAN5 will be a position to define test cases for these features. RAN5 has the flexibility to follow most appropriate 3GPP Conformance Work Item process for this task depending on the scope of the work. Also, there is no 3GPP process and\/or procedure impediment for RAN5 to add test coverage anytime for features defined in earlier releases._x000D_\n_x000D_\nRAN5 won\u2019t initiate Conformance Test Development work on its own, as in the case of any 3GPP activity, it is contribution driven. Hence, interested proponents of NB-IoT NTN must initiate and drive Rel-15 and Rel-16 NB-IoT conformance test development in RAN5.
