Radio interface protocol architecture and procedures for 6GR [RAN WG2, RAN WG1, RAN WG4, RAN WG3] a) User Plane architecture and protocol design [RAN WG2] b) Control Plane architecture (including RRC states) and protocol design [RAN WG2, RAN WG3] c) Access stratum security aspects, in alignment with requirements from SA WG3 [RAN WG2] d) Radio signaling framework for UE capabilities, aiming at improvements and simplification compared to 5G NR [RAN WG2, RAN WG1, RAN WG4] e) Data transfer design to support various types of data (e.g. AI\/ML, Sensing, etc) [RAN WG2, RAN WG3] Following further discussions during RAN#109, RAN Plenary believes that the security requirements for the access stratum can significantly influence the overall system design. Therefore, it is crucial to establish when these security requirements will be aligned between RAN and SA and particularly between SA WG3 and RAN WG2. TSG RAN believes that June 2026 would be an appropriate date.
