As part of this discussion, we have reached the following observations and proposals:\nObservation 1: Small data transmissions in Rel-17 include UL transmissions which are performed in RRC inactive using random access (RA_SDT) and configured grant (CG-SDT).\nObservation 2: Small data in RRC inactive is an important Rel-17 feature that enables efficient energy utilization by UEs since UEs can stay longer time in inactive state. \nObservation 3: RAN4 has defined RRM requirements for CG-SDT and RA-SDT.\nObservation 4: RRM test cases rely on controlling the UE UL transmissions while in RRC inactive. \nObservation 5: The new WID NR_SmallData_INACTIVE-UEConTest was approved in RAN plenary #96 and includes definition of RRM test cases for NR small data transmissions in INACTIVE state. \nObservation 6: The RAN5 WID does not include objectives related to testing interfaces. \nProposal 1: Include the following objective in the WID NR_SmallData_INACTIVE-UEConTest:\n          \u201cStudy and define, if needed, new testing interfaces for triggering UL transmissions in RRC inactive.\u201d\nProposal 2: Include potential impact to 38.509 as part of the WID NR_SmallData_INACTIVE-UEConTest. \nProposal 3: Reply to RAN4 that RAN5 will study how new interfaces need to be adapted.","secretary_remarks":"","agenda_item_sort_order":513,"ainumber":"5.3.34.6","ainame":"Discussion Papers, Work Plan, TC lists","tdoc_agenda_sort_order":51300,"status":"noted","reservation_date":"2022-08-08 12:51:41","uploaded":"2022-08-08 17:08:47","revisionof":"","revisedto":"","release":"Rel-17","crspec":"","crspecversion":"","workitem":[{"winame":"NR_SmallData_INACTIVE-UEConTest"}],"crnumber":"","crrevision":"","crcategory":"","tsg_crp":"","lsreplyto":"","lsto":"","Cc":"","lsoriginalls":"","lsreply":"","link":"https:\/\/www.3gpp.org\/ftp\/TSG_RAN\/WG5_Test_ex-T1\/TSGR5_96_Electronic\/Docs\/R5-225130.zip","group":"R5","meeting":"R5-96-e","year":2022,"uicc_affected":null,"me_affected":null,"ran_affected":null,"cn_affected":null,"clauses_affected":null,"crsinpack":null,"crsinpacknumber":0}]
