RAN4 is not clear if current Beamlock test function can support locking two TX beams from two panels simultaneously. For transmission with multi-panel (STxMP) measurement, RAN4 agreed it is necessary to make sure UE Beamlock test function can lock UE two Tx beams from two panels simultaneously [1]._x000D_
In the LS [1] RAN4 ask how to extend the current FR2 UE Beamlock test function to lock UE two Tx beams from two panels simultaneously._x000D_
This document provides our view and proposal on the question in RAN4 LS [1]._x000D_
..._x000D_
Conclusion_x000D_
To fulfil the request in RAN4 LS [1] our proposal is to set independently the number of Tx antenna patterns forming the Tx beams and the number of Rx antenna patterns forming the Rx beams to be locked by the UE. Below we propose two alternative solutions._x000D_
Alternative A:_x000D_
We propose an alternative to independently set the number of Tx antenna patterns forming the Tx beams and the number of Rx antenna patterns forming the Rx beams to be locked by the UE as following:_x000D_
- Use 2 bits (e.g., bits 3 and 4) in the octet of ‘UE Beamlock test Function’ IE to denote a binary number from 0 to 3 (4 possible combinations) to set the number of Tx antenna patterns forming the Tx beams to be locked. _x000D_
- Use 3 bits (e.g., bits 3 to 5) in the octet of ‘UE Beamlock test Function’ IE to denote a binary number from 0 to 7 (8 possible combinations) to set the number of Tx antenna patterns forming the Tx beams to be locked. _x000D_
- Use 3 bits (e.g., bits 5 to 7 or bits 6 to 8) in the octet of ‘UE Beamlock test Function’ IE to denote a binary number from 0 to 7 (8 possible combinations) to set the number of Rx antenna patterns forming the Rx beams to be locked._x000D_
- Use 1 bit (e.g., bit 8) in the octet of ‘UE Beamlock test Function’ IE to set all active Tx and / or Rx antenna patterns forming the Tx and / or Rx beams to be locked by the UE._x000D_
Alternative B:_x000D_
As more than one beams can be formed by the same antenna patterns, we propose another alternative to independently set the number of Tx beams formed by the Tx antenna pattern(s) and the number of Rx beams formed by the Rx antenna pattern(s) to be locked by the UE as following:_x000D_
- Use 2 bits (e.g., bits 3 and 4) in the octet of ‘UE Beamlock test Function’ IE to denote a binary number from 0 to 3 (4 possible combinations) to set the number of Tx beams formed by the Tx antenna pattern(s) to be locked. _x000D_
- Use 3 bits (e.g., bits 3 and 5) in the octet of ‘UE Beamlock test Function’ IE to denote a binary number from 0 to 7 (8 possible combinations) to set the number of Tx beams formed by the Tx antenna pattern(s) to be locked. _x000D_
- Use 3 bits (e.g., bits 5 to 7 or bits 6 to 8) in the octet of ‘UE Beamlock test Function’ IE to denote a binary number from 0 to 7 (8 possible combinations) to set the number of Rx beams formed by the Rx antenna pattern(s) to be locked._x000D_
- Use 1 bit (e.g., bit 8) in the octet of ‘UE Beamlock test Function’ IE to set all active Tx and / or Rx beams formed by the Tx and / or Rx antenna pattern(s) to be locked by the UE._x000D_
Note that bits 1 and 2 in the octet of ‘UE Beamlock test Function’ IE shall continue to be used to set whether ‘Tx’ or ‘Rx’ or both ‘Tx and Rx’ antenna pattern forming the beam need to be locked by the UE, to ensure no backward compatibility issue for legacy UE._x000D_
We propose RAN5 to consider this solution and provide the response LS to RAN4.
