[{"name":"R5-216440","title":"Discussion paper on upgrading TS 34.229-1 to Rel-16 and updating PRD18","source":"ROHDE & SCHWARZ","contact":"Hans Rohnert","contact-id":50081,"tdoctype":"discussion","for":"Endorsement","abstract":"\u2022\tTS 34.229-2 and 34.229-5 were recently upgraded to Rel-16 due to Rel-16 CRs for adding new NR_EIEIConTest test case 11.1. \n\u2022\tTS 34.229-1 is still a Rel-15 specification. \n\nIt is to be decided how to proceed with TS 34.229-1 now: should it \n\u2022\tStay at Rel-15, or\n\u2022\tBe upgraded due to Rel-16 functionality in there now, or\n\u2022\tBe upgraded to Rel-16 via an administrative action\n2.\tDiscussion\nTS 34.229-1 had originally been introduced to capture IMS test cases for LTE (and other earlier systems), with TS 34.229-5 capturing IMS5GS test cases. This is still reflected in the specification groupings shown in PRD18:\nHowever, when we started IMS5GS work in the context of WI 5GS_NR_LTE-UEConTest, we decided the following:\n\u2022\tThe new IMS5GS test cases would be described in new TS 34.229-5\n\u2022\tThe applicabilities of these new test cases would be captured in existing TS 34.229-2, side-by-side with the IMS test cases for LTE.\n\u2022\tJust like the LTE test cases, the new IMS5GS test cases would use the default messages described in Annex A of TS 34.229-1. These default messages would then be enhanced as needed by TS 34.229-5 test cases.\nDuring RAN5#92-e, R5-216332 added eCall TC 11.1 to TS 34.229-5, and R5-216330 added the corresponding applicability statement to TS 34.229-2. This new TC refers to functionality of TS 34.229-1 that again relates to Rel-16 core specifications. For instance, R5-216332 references, via R5-216331, condition A20 \u201cINVITE for creating an eCall over IMS session manually\u201d. This capability was already described for eCall over LTE, but now also builds on Rel-16 core specifications. This argues for a specification upgrade due to Rel-16 functionality.\nFurthermore, the above grouping in PRD18 seems to assume that TS 34.229-5 and TS 34.229-1 are independent of each other, probably due to the perception that both specs hold distinct groups of test cases. As argued above however, these two specifications are technically linked \u2013 which is why above grouping should be revisited.
