Further, requirements were identified for any improvements to specifications and working methods. {"name":"R5-256575","title":"Technical Study and Findings on Intermodulation and Harmonic Issues Impacting GNSS for 5G NR FR1","source":"CTIA Certification OTA GNSS Task Force","contact":"Ingbert Sigovich","contact-id":28887,"tdoctype":"LS in","for":"Information","abstract":"By request from the PTCRB Working Group, CTIA Certification reactivated the OTA GNSS Task Force as of February 2021 to investigate and provide guidance on GNSS testing for 5G NR, including new test procedures. One of the most important tasks was to identify any IMD and harmonic issues for A-GNSS testing with 5G NR, both FR1 EN DC and FR1 SA._x000D_\nDiscussion\nCurrent CTIA Certification Test Plan Progress and Status_x000D_\nAfter 4 years of work, the OTA GNSS Task Force achieved the following:\n1.Identified the IMD and harmonic cases to GNSS frequencies, up to 5th order of interference._x000D_\n2.Defined the test configurations based on the subset of SA bands and EN-DC band combinations requested by the operators in the US and Canada._x000D_\n3.Developed new test procedures to test A-GNSS with 5G NR FR1 to verify the potential issues._x000D_\nOut of 20 5G FR1 EN-DC bands combinations required by operators, 13 of them could potentially cause interference to the GPS L1 \/ Galileo E1 signal, and 9 of them potentially cause interference to the GPS L5 \/ Galileo E5a signal. All test cases were documented and defined in the latest released CTIA Certification OTA Test Plan Version 8.0. Since the new test procedures to verify IMD cases could significantly increase test time, the group also brought in some time reductions and optimizations into the test procedures in this latest version of the test plan._x000D_\nLatest Findings and Operators Guidance and Decision_x000D_\nSince October 2024, OTA A-GPS L1 testing with 5G FR1 EN-DC was required in CTIA Certification testing. There was a device manufacturer who reported that IMD from 5G FR1 EN-DC band combinations did impact GNSS receiver severely. However, the solution to mitigate and solve the issue was reported to be very costly and does not result in an overall improved user experience. For E911 calls in the US, any session with 5G FR1 EN-DC will be downgraded to LTE only mode and consequently 5G FR1 EN-DC mode will not be used in the E911 use case. One device manufacturer suggested to not test the EN-DC configurations that will cause IMD issues if CTIA Certification decides to focus A-GNSS testing to address the E911 emergency call use case. CTIA operators confirmed that E911 is the most important use case to test OTA A-GNSS for CTIA Certification. For other use cases, like navigation, it is up to device manufacturers_x000D_\nCPWG Liaison Statement_x000D_\nPage 2 of 2_x000D_\nto manage their GNSS performance under different band combinations. Based on these findings and operator feedback, it was decided to move OTA A-GNSS testing with 5G NR FR1 EN-DC to informative in the CTIA Certification OTA Test Plan Version 10.0._x000D_\nRecommendations_x000D_\n[...]\nActions: This LS is for information only and no action is requested.","secretary_remarks":"","agenda_item_sort_order":6,"ainumber":"3","ainame":"Incoming Liaison Statements","tdoc_agenda_sort_order":657500,"status":"noted","reservation_date":"2025-01-12 13:38:30","uploaded":"2025-12-01 13:41:11","revisionof":"","revisedto":"","release":"","crspec":"","crspecversion":"","workitem":"","crnumber":"","crrevision":"","crcategory":"","tsg_crp":"","lsreplyto":"","lsto":"","Cc":"","lsoriginalls":"","lsreply":"","link":"https:\/\/www.3gpp.org\/ftp\/tsg_ran\/WG5_Test_ex-T1\/TSGR5__109_Dallas\/Docs\/R5-256575.zip","group":"R5","meeting":"R5-109","year":2025,"uicc_affected":"","me_affected":"","ran_affected":"","cn_affected":"","clauses_affected":"","crsinpack":null,"crsinpacknumber":0}]
