But given the NR CBW has been increased significantly with many bands supporting max CBW 100MHz, and UE could always work under >20MHz CBW case.
RAN4 would like to know whether 10MHz/20MHz is sufficient to verify much wider NR channels. The background information and technical discussions in GSMA on selecting the narrow CBW for NR OTA testing would be helpful.
3GPP RAN4 looks forward to further cooperation with GSMA TSGAP on NR FR1 TRP TRS work.
2 Actions: To GSMA TSGAP: 3GPP RAN4 asks GSMA TSGAP to take the above feedback into account and encourage GSMA to provide more background information.
GSMA TSGIoT is pleased to announce the official commencement of the study item aimed at defining the Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) Internet of Things (IoT) Requirements and Test Cases for User Equipment (UE).
This significant initiative represents a crucial step in advancing the development and standardization of IoT technologies, tailored explicitly to NTN scenarios. By defining comprehensive and standardized test cases for UE, we aim to ensure seamless interoperability, reliability, and optimal performance of IoT devices operating within NTN environments.
We eagerly anticipate the active participation and valuable contributions from esteemed stakeholders and industry experts throughout this endeavour. Together, we can shape the future of NTN IoT connectivity and pave the way for transformative applications in diverse sectors.
2 Background

GSMA TSGIoT group has initiated a study report that aims to learn about the capability requirements of typical IoT NTN devices and test specifications and test cases. IoT NTN device" primarily pertains to NB-IoT devices equipped with NTN capabilities. The report encompasses various components and entities relevant to the industry, such as DUT, RF Modules, chipsets, MNOS, etc.
3GPP RAN 5 is in the process of defining the test cases. In order to expedite the definition of Test cases and also to include the right ecosystem players which are vital for the overall equation, it is proposed that the TSG group take the lead. The primary goal is to commence the development of test case definitions within the TSG, with the intention of subsequently adopting or modifying them based on the recommendations put forth by RAN 5 upon its completion. This approach aims to expedite the test case definition process while aligning with the finalized recommendations of RAN 5. This will also help to align subsequent steps at GCF forums like SG and CAG, to speed up the certification process and for timely commercialization of the chipsets and modules.
3 Next Steps
Following the completion of the Study Item, the GSMA TSGIoT will work on a new Permanent Reference Document (PRD) defining requirements for UEs using NTN and then create test cases to test these requirements. The schedule for this work is to start in Q4 2023.
When completed we will send you a copy of the Study Item report.
4 Request for Action
GSMA requests members of 3GPP and GCF relevant groups (RAN5, RAN4, CAG) interested in IoT NTN to join and contribute to the NTN IoT test cases and invite both forums to attend GSMA TSGIoT group meetings and share feedback. The objective of this is to have cross-collaboration in the industry and to avoid duplication of efforts of the same task in each forum. GSMA looks forward to the continuation of the fruitful cooperation between our organizations.
5 Industry collaboration
The scope of the study includes key members of the industry ecosystem, such as producers of test equipment. Coordinated contributions are being made by pertinent stakeholders. Players include test equipment producers, MNOs/MVNOs, chipset and module producers.

However, it was reported that due to the regional requirement and/or market situation, all 3GPP defined CBW/SCS are not supported in their networks and some UEs do not support them fully due to design restriction and/or market needs among other reasons. Therefore, it was required to find out which UE CBWs are suitably implemented to ensure they can function properly on the various networks. PTCRB Working Group has formed a PTCRB CBW Task Force, composed of operators, tests equipment vendors, device, chipset vendors, and PTCRB labs, which started to discuss development of a methodology to validate support of the CBWs declared by the UE.
PTCRB CBW Task Force concluded that execution of selected test cases from 5G NR Application Layer Data Throughput Performance Technical Report, 3GPP TR 37.901-5, such as downlink test in section A.2.1.1, could sufficiently identify UE’s CBW/SCS issues and validate UE’s functionality by measuring data throughput over the supported CBW/SCS.
PTCRB CBW Task Force sees relevance in performing downlink and uplink testing to validate that UEs correctly support each of the CBW they advertise.
However, the Task Force identified that section 5.6.1 of 3GPP TR 37.901-5 states the procedure for bi-directional scenario using TCP-based data transfer is for further study.
Action
CTIA Certification on behalf of PTCRB RF Channel Bandwidth Task Force respectfully requests the following action from 3GPP RAN5.
• Develop a new 5G NR downlink and uplink test case, validating that a UE supports each of the CBW it advertises, building on downlink test case in section A.2.1.1.
